For organisations

Who can use the identity verification services

Only approved organisations that sign and comply with participation agreements and access policies can use the identity verification services (IVS).

Applicants must demonstrate that their use of the IVS is reasonable, necessary and proportionate to their functions or activities.

As the operator of the services, the Attorney-General’s Department may use our discretion when deciding whether to grant an organisation access to the IVS.

Document Verification Service (DVS)

The DVS checks whether biographic information such as name and date of birth on an identity document matches the original record.

It is used by approved government and private sector organisations doing business in Australia or New Zealand.

There are different ways to apply to access the DVS, depending on your organisation and how you want to use it.

For more on the DVS, visit About our services.

Face Verification Service (FVS)

The FVS compares limited biographic information. It also checks whether a person’s photo matches the image used on one of their identity documents.

For now, only approved Australian Government agencies and state and territory governments can use the FVS. In future, this will expand to include approved private sector organisations.

If your organisation is interested, you can register your interest in using the FVS.

For more on the FVS, visit About our services.

Documents the identity verification services can verify

Currently the DVS can verify 14 document types and the FVS can verify 2.
